Today is our first anniversary! Ryan and I just got home from a mini weekend getaway. We decided to take turns planning anniversary events (stole the idea from Heather and Kyle), so this year was my turn to plan our anniversary. Since it was the first, I decided it would be o.k. to go a little overboard. I booked a night at the Hyatt Regency in Scottsdale which is where we stayed last night. We checked in around 4 p.m. When I booked online the room said it came with all the bells and whistles, including a large marble bathtub. When we got in the room it just looked like any other hotel room, nothing too special. We went back to the front desk and asked about the package that we booked and if in fact we were supposed to get a more "suite" like room with the marble tub. The girl really didn't know what she was talking about, and informed us that there were only a handful of rooms in the hotel with the marble tub. It was a little deflating because I was expecting to be able to take a nice, relaxing bubble bath in my l
uxorious tub. Anyways, we went to the pool for an hour or so. There were mostly little kids swimming, so we felt kinda silly, but we had fun anyways, especially when we went down the
water slide and all the kids looked at us like we were crazy :) We ate dinner at the
Italian restaurant at the resort called Alto. I wasn't entirely impressed with this place, but it was still o.k. It's one of those fancy-
schmancy restaurants that has very small portions and weird sauces. I ordered veal and Ryan ordered salmon and when the entrees came out they looked exactly the same. I thought that was a little weird. We realized that we both got the veal, but our server didn't come around for a little while and we didn't want to make a fuss about it. Ryan was perfectly happy eating the veal, but I was a little annoyed that he got the wrong entree and the fact that the server didn't even realize his mistake.
Anyways, the rest of the dinner was fine. They did bring us an anniversary creme
brulee that was really yummy and nice of them! After dinner we took a gondola ride on the
resort's lake (man-made, of course). It was really beautiful and romantic and our gondolier had a great voice and sang us some love song in
Italian. Obviously, we couldn't understand him, but it sounded pretty. This morning we enjoyed a yummy breakfast in bed and lounged around watching the
Olympics on t.v. for a while. We also went to the diamondbacks game this afternoon which was my anniversary gift to Ryan as the tickets were made of "paper" which is the official first
anniversary gift criteria. Again, there were
way more children there than adults which is fine except I purchased the "cheap" tickets which are bleacher style
seating which is mostly full of families with children running and jumping and kicking and screaming. Don't get me wrong, I love kids, but Ryan and I felt a little uncomfortable being squished in between families in a mass crowd of people. To top it off, the little girl
sitting behind Ryan was spitting her sunflower seeds at his head and the lady she just kept saying "stop spitting your seeds at him," without telling the girl to apologize or apologizing to Ryan herself. Sorry
hun, you're present wasn't supposed to include an obnoxious little girl who lacks control of her
sunflowerseed-spitting! All in all, I wasn't entirely impressed with our weekend which kinda stinks, but we were together and that is all the matters.
Here are some pics from our less-than-perfect, but still great, weekend...

So, one year down and many, many more happy years ahead of us. Thanks for all of the happy anniversary wishes! We love you all.
